Josh Young, owner of the New Lebanon Farmers Market & Grocery in New Lebanon, N.Y., had a challenge for his customers: Raise $10,000 to help your neighbors pay for groceries and he'll shave off his 10-year-old beard.
The community answered, raising the money, and Young made his way to the barber shop. On Monday, Young went to Castoldi’s Barber Shop in Pittsfield for the big shave.
Young was on a mission to ensure that no one in his community would go hungry. The market runs a companion food aid program, Market Match, that extends the benefits provided by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The program doubles SNAP benefits with a daily cap of $30.
