Spring bird watchers responded to a rare sighting of tundra swans on Wednesday at the causeway on Onota Lake on Dan Casey Memorial Drive in Pittsfield. Tundra swans are rare for Massachusetts and the Berkshires.

News of the sighting traveled through birding clubs via text messages, bringing birders from around the county to the causeway for the approximately six-hour visit. The causeway had a good number of species including mergansers and goldeneye ducks.
