A tribute fit for the queen of soul
Join vocalists, Gina Coleman, Danielia Cotton, Jen Durkin and Wanda Houston, when they gather at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at The Colonial in Pittsfield to celebrate the life, music and spirit of the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin. "Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul" features The Rev Tor Band backing the performances of these power-house vocalists. Bring your creativity and help decorate the tree
Create an ornament to represent your favorite downtown Pittsfield business at a drop-in ornament-making session for the Downtown Pittsfield Tree for the Festival of Trees, "Often Heard," at the Berkshire Museum from Nov. 16 through Jan. 6. Creators can collect their ornament after Jan. 6 to use at home next year. Drop-in ornament making sessions will be held noon to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Kristina Cardot of The Funky Phoenix will help guide participants through the ornament-making process. The sessions will be held in the DPI Conference Room, 33 Dunham Mall, Pittsfield. The entrance can be found across from the police station.
Get ready for winter at a great price
Looking for some new skis, skates or snowboards for this winter? Pine Cobble School will hold its annual Ski and Skate Sale, for one day only, from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday. The sale offers an array of new and gently-used winter sports equipment and clothing, including adults' and kids' sizes. Expert skiers, snowboarders and skaters will be on hand to answer all technical and sizing questions. The school will accept gently used winter sports equipment for consignment. Consignments for the sale may be dropped off at the school from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. All skis must be parabolic/shaped and must have current bindings. The school is at 163 Gale Road, Williamstown.
Calling all spooky little readers!
In addition to checking out some great books, children can parade around The Berkshire Athenaeum on Wednesday. The Kids Costume Parade will start in the Children's Library and will wind through the entire building, trick or treating along the way.
