Fire spread

There will be an elevated risk of fire spread in the Berkshires on Monday due to the combination of gusty winds and dry weather. 

The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., is warning of an elevated risk of fire spread in the Berkshires on Monday due to the combination of gusty winds and dry weather.

The weather services asks residents to exercise caution when handling potential ignition sources, including machinery, cigarettes and matches. 

The highest risk will be between late morning and the afternoon. Winds of up to 35 mph are expected in eastern New York, western Massachusetts and northwest Connecticut.
