Real estate tax bills mailed to residents

City Collector Marilyn W. Sheehan has announced that the third and fourth quarter real estate and personal property bills were mailed Dec. 29.

The bill has two coupons. The third quarter coupon covering the period of January, February and March is due Monday, Feb. 2. The fourth quarter coupon covering the period of April, May and June is due on Friday, May 1. Include the payment coupon with the check to ensure proper credit for the payment.

Payments can be mailed to the City of Pittsfield, P.O. Box 981063, Boston, MA 02298-1063; paid in person at Sheehan's City Hall office from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday though Friday; online at Cityofpittsfield.org; or by telephone at 1-888-565-1167.

Payments received after the Feb. 2 due date will be subject to 14 percent interest back to the due date. Payments should be mailed at least seven days prior to the due date to avoid interest.

The new tax rates are $18.06 for residential and $36.63 for commercial.

The back of the tax bill informs residents of their rights as to tax appeals or exemptions.
