The Wahconah boys lacrosse team made history on Wednesday night. The third-seeded Warriors held off No. 1 Sandwich to win the first MIAA Division IV state championship in program history.

Avery Vale-Cruz threw a one-hit shutout, struck out 13 and got the game-winning hit with an RBI double in the sixth as the Warriors beat Abington at Pine Grove Park. Wahconah will play Amesbury on Wednesday in the state semifinals.

Wahconah's bid to reach the MIAA Division IV championship gamecame up short. The fourth-seeded Warriors were beaten by No. 1 Randolph 80-51.

For the first time since 1992, Wahconah has reached the MIAA Final Four. The Warriors scored a 58-53 victory over Manchester-Essex in an Elite Eight game Sunday in Dalton.

Second-seeded Wahconah battled back from a big first-half deficit in the MIAA Division IV girls basketball Sweet 16, but the Warriors lost to 15th-seeded Mashpee 47-45.
