Kolodkin's Corner: New faces and new hope as UMass Hockey takes the ice in 2022

hockey players celebrate

Massachusetts' Garrett Wait, 12, celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal in 2021. Wait, a graduate student forward, is one of few upperclassmen returning for the Minutemen this season.

The most successful team in Amherst, Massachusetts, and arguably all of Western Mass. over the last four years, begins its season tomorrow. The University of Massachusetts Minutemen take the ice in Springfield on Saturday to face the American International College hockey team.

Despite not being in the same conference, UMass and AIC have blossomed into hockey powers at the same time, developing a bit of regional rivalry.
