It was the silence that echoed across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Mount Greylock baseball team won its first-ever state championship on Saturday, beating top-seeded Hopedale 3-1. That the Mounties did it without a hit will make it a memory for a lifetime.

“Never in a million years,” Greylock outfielder Anthony Welch said, when asked if he could ever have imagined winning a state title that way.

“It’s crazy,” Greylock catcher Derek Paris said at the time.
