GREAT BARRINGTON — Eric Mabee, the head professional at the Country Club of Pittsfield, is in a three-way tie for the lead at the Northeastern New York PGA Section pro championship.

Mabee shot a 1-under 69 at Wyantenuck Country Club to share the first-round lead with Chris Sanger of Woodstock (N.Y.) Golf Club and Scott Berliner of Saratoga Spa Golf Club.

Tied for fourth, one stroke behind the leaders is one of Mabee’s assistants in Pittsfield, Thomas Sennett.

Stockbridge Golf Club pro Steve Mazzariello and Taconic Golf Club pro Josh Hillman are both in the top 10. Mazzariello shot 74 to finish ninth, while Hillman shot 75 and is in a five-way tie for 10th.

Mark Levesque of the host club is tied for 18th after shooting 79.

Wyantenuck played pretty tough on Tuesday. There were only 43 birdies compared to 234 pars and 111 bogeys. The average score was 75.2.

The final round begins today at 8:30 a.m.

High School ResultsMount Greylock 187, Lee 196WILLIAMSTOWN — The Mounties defended home turf at Waubeeka on Tuesday, downing the Wildcats behind a medalist performance by Alexander Axt.

Axt racked up a pair of pars to finish with a 7-over 43 on the front nine. His consistent afternoon was backed up by Owen Petropulos’ 46 and two more sub-50 scores.

Lee had Camden Redstone come up with a 46 and two pars, but only one other Wildcat stayed under 50. Greylock’s Cameron Turner had a three-par day.

Wahconah 182, Mount Everett 200GREAT BARRINGTON — For the third time in as many matches, Wahconah’s Patrick McLaughlin earned medalist honors.

McLaughlin shot 6-over-par 42 and beat out Mount Everett’s Cooper Rothvoss for medalist by one stroke, as the Warriors beat the Eagles on Monday at Wyantenuck.

It was the second time in less than a week that Wahconah and Everett met on the golf course. The two teams, and Monument Mountain, showed up for a tri-meet on Saturday at Wahconah Country Club.

Wahconah’s four scoring golfers all shot under 50. Rothvoss and Jack Seward-Dailey were the only Eagles to shoot under 50.
