WESTFIELD — Alex Perenick was a busy man on Thursday.

The Wahconah senior served as the opening act of the 2023 MIAA Division VI State Championship meet, and then brought the curtains down with a finishing kick on the straightaway of his 1,500-meter finale to win a state title in the pentathlon.
