GLEN ALLEN, V.A. — Before the start of the seventh inning in Thursday night’s Babe Ruth 13U World Series semifinal between the Pittsfield All-Stars and the Midwest Plains champions from Fargo, North Dakota, center fielder Ed Ferris spoke briefly to left fielder Brendan Socie.

“How cool would it be if one of us had a diving play for the last out?” Ferris recalled.
