1 man killed in fast-moving house fire in Fall River

FALL RIVER, MASS. >> Authorities say a man was killed in a fast-moving fire at a multi-family home.

Firefighters responded around 6:30 p.m. Sunday to the home on Eastern Avenue.

The home's third floor was engulfed and the windows were blown out when firefighters arrived.

Officials say a man on the third floor was trapped and died in the fire. Authorities haven't released the man's identity.

Several residents escaped and no other injuries were reported.

Bitter temperatures made it difficult to extinguish the flames.

Fall River District Fire Chief James Mellen tells WPRI-TV that equipment was frozen and at least one firefighter slipped and fell on ice.

There's no word on what caused the blaze.
