2018-19 The Berkshire Eagle All Stars: Volleyball

Offensive Player of the Year

Bailey Thomas, Lee, Senior

Thomas put together a dominant senior season to cap off her glittering career for the Wildcats. Moved to an outside hitter position this year, Thomas rose to the occasion — literally — by recording 208 kills on 464 attacks. She also had 13 blocks on the season, showing off her ability to be a first-line defender, as well. The Wildcats won another Berkshire League crown this season, and made it back to the Western Massachusetts Division III championship match. Thomas finished her four-year career with 525 kills, 72 aces and 148 blocks.

Defensive Player of the Year

Anna Wang, Lee, Senior

Wang, a repeat award winner, took home the league coaches' MVP honors for the year, and for good reason. The seasoned libero for the Wildcats was a steady, calming presence in the back line for the Wildcats, helping to consistently repel opposing team's attacks with her ability to dig the ball out and set her team up to go on offense. This year along, she recorded 264 digs for Lee and had 72 service aces with seven kills. Wang helped her team to a league title and a spot in the Western Mass. Division III championship match against Frontier. Wang finished her four-year career with 825 digs and 150 aces. She also had a 95 percent completion rate on balls she served into play.

Coach of the Year

Greg Geyer, Mount Greylock

The first-year coach for the Mounties helped turn Greylock into a regional power for the season. Mount Greylock handed Lee a rare Berkshire County loss during the regular season, and the team finished with a 15-4 mark on the year. The team earned the No. 3 seed in the Western Mass. Division III tournament — its highest since the 2016 season. The team went at least 1-1 against each Berkshire County team, including turning around a 3-2 loss to Pittsfield early in the season with a 3-0 sweep in the regular season finale. Geyer's team swept Mahar in the opening round of the tournament, before falling to Western Mass. finalist Lee in the D-III semifinals.
