Lower Weight Most Valuable Wrestler

Zabion Powell, Taconic, Senior

Powell brought down the curtain on his glittering career by helping his Braves win their first-ever state championship. Taconic claimed the D-III team title, and the senior played a huge role by winning an individual state championship. Powell also won the Western Mass. D-III crown for the second year in a row, and finished third in the All-States meet at 145 pounds. He set school records this year in wins for a season (52) and pins (38), and finished with the school record in overall wins (168) and pins (117).

Upper Weight Most Valuable Wrestler

Dylan Burke, Taconic, Junior

Burke put together a monster year for Taconic to help the Braves win a Western Mass. and State Division III championship. Wrestling at 182 pounds, Burke won the Western Mass. individual crown in his weight class, then finished as the runner-up at the state meet before going on to place third in the All-State championships. Burke topped the 100-win mark during the year, and sits at 119 now. He won 48 matches this year, recording 26 via fall and stands at 63 pins for his career.

Coach of the Year

Jeremy Tetreault, Taconic

Tetreault gets the honors for being the lead man, but the coach was adamant that his entire staff also get credit, as well. His staff is: Matthew Chamberlain, Derek Powell, Dwayne Miller, Scott Tremlett, Joe Pasquarelli and Ishmael Lytle. We can't argue with his thinking, as the staff came together to help guide the Braves to their first state Division III team championship. The team also repeated as Western Mass. champion in D-III this year, and won their third Western Mass. title in four seasons. At Western Mass., Tetreault and staff coached four individual champions -- Mike LaFreniere (132 pounds), Zabion Powell (145), Dylan Burke (182) and Shawn O'Shea (195). The Braves also went undefeated through Berkshire County to claim the league championship.
