Celebrate the season with good music
Berkshire musicians Billy Keane and Matt Cusson will headline a Holiday Cabaret at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8, at Barrington Stage Company's Mr. Finn's Cabaret. Tickets are $25 for table seating and $20 for a barstool. These can be purchased by calling 413-236-8888 or online at barringtonstageco.org. Keane is a founding member of the Whiskey Treaty Roadshow. Cusson is a recent winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Award. Mr. Finn's Cabaret, located on the lower level of the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center, 36 Linden St., Pittsfield.
Listen to the sounds of the season at Trinity Church
The Cantilena Chamber Choir will present "Christmas at Trinity" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. The concert will include the "Vivaldi Gloria" with instrumental ensemble, "Winter" from Vaughan Williams' "Folksongs of the Four Seasons" and new carols by contemporary composer Dan Forrest. Guests include the Hudson Valley Choral Society and director Gretchen Reuckheim. Tickets are $25 adults, $20 students/seniors, and free for children 12 and younger, and that includes a special post-concert reception. Trinity Church is at 88 Walker St., Lenox. Hear the story for yourself
In celebration of Herman Melville's 200th birthday, join author and Arrowhead Writer-In-Residence, Jana Laiz, and actors/narrators Caroline Calkins and Tom Jaeger of Shakespeare and Co, in the launch of their new audiobook, "Billy Budd in the Breadbox, The Story of Herman Melville and Eleanor" at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8. It is the story of the special relationship between 9-year-old Eleanor Melville Thomas and her famous granddad, Herman Melville. Laiz will discuss the writing of this history of Melville, and Calkins and Jaeger will read passages from it. There will be wine, cheese and desserts, limited free downloads and books for sale. This event is free, but there will be limited space. Herman Melville's Arrowhead is at 780 Holmes Road, Pittsfield.
Finish up your holiday shopping
The Holiday Shindy will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15. For over a decade, the Holiday Shindy has featured artisans selling their wares in the setting of what is the newly instated Al-Khalil Cultural Center formerly Shire City Sanctuary). This year, continue the tradition with an intimate shopping experience of 40 vendors hand-selected for their unique and distinctive offerings. Admission is $3 for the general public. Children younger than 12 are free. The Al-Khalil Cultural Center is at 40 Melville St., Pittsfield.
