Thought for the day

“The flag of the United States has not been created by rhetorical sentences in declarations of independence and in bills of rights. It has been created by the experience of a great people, and nothing is written upon it that has not been written by their life.

It is the embodiment, not of a sentiment, but of a history.”

President Woodrow Wilson  (1856-1924)

The Greeting

Charlynn Rand, 19, shares a moment with her daughter, Adeline, 3, after graduating from the Pittsifield Adult Learning Center on Thursday.

Friday, June 14, 2019

"I'm glad it's Friday,"  a  coworker said as he passed me in the hallway this morning. Aren't we all ... except, of course, those of us who have to work through the weekend.

Speaking of things to be glad about, music lovers will certainly be singing a happy tune about the latest news out of latest news out of Tanglewood. A four-day event will be held later this month to roll out the new Linde Center for Music and Learning.

In Pittsfield, the city's Resource Recovery Committee has tabled talks on a proposed ordiance for a new trash collection plan.

Congrats are in order for the 48 new graduates of the William Stickney Pittsfield Adult Learning Center, who received their diplomas during a commencement ceremony Thursday at Taconic High School.

And be sure to check out Larry Parnass' latest report from the road on the Berkshire Mall owner's troubled empire. This story takes readers to Mason City, Iowa.
