Thought for the day

“The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.” — ELIE WIESEL, Romanian-born journalist and author

The Greeting

Bodhi Goodman-Wu and Jackson Draper, both 5, chat as they sit on top of a pair of eyes at the “Eyes” exhibit by Louise Bourgeois on the lawn in front of the Williams College Museum of Art in Williamstown on Tuesday afternoon. The children are enrolled in the Williamstown Community Preschool Program, which is located only a block away.

Good day, Berkshire County.

Grim news out of Pittsfield, where a shooting in the early hours Sunday morning has claimed a life. The Berkshire District Attorney's Office is releasing no additional information.

In other news, the city of Pittsfield marked a solemn occasion Tuesday, International Overdose Awareness Day.

Conductor John Williams has had a standing ovation or two; at the final film night at Tanglewood, an ovation proved to be quite moving for the man, perhaps best known for his "Star Wars" theme song.

Our theater critic Jeffrey Borak reviews "Topdog/Underdog," which he says is being given a haunting, gut-wrenching production at Shakespeare & Company.
