Thought for the day

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is God’s gift, that’s why we call it the present.” — JOAN RIVERS (1933-2014)

The Greeting

BEN GARVER — THE BERKSHIRE EAGLE
Halle Peers, a sophomore, and her family move her gear into her room in the Townhouses at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams on Monday.

Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019

A good Wednesday to you, dear Beat readers! Clouds and sun are expected for the rest of the week. Enjoy it while you can.

Here are the day's top stories ...

PITTSFIELD TRASH PICKUP: The city's contract with Republic Services has been bought by Casella Waste Systems, but no changes in service are expected.

AND OFF THEY GO: Pittsfield Public Schools began its calendar year on Tuesday, and The Eagle was there to capture the excitement.

ASCENDING THE LADDER: Pittsfield Fire Department veteran Tom Sammons has been chosen as the next chief of the department.

NOT SO FAST: Neighborhood opposition has put the brakes on a planned cannabis shop on routes 7 and 20 in Lenox.

MENDING FENCES: A police chase in Pittsfield ended when the suspect crashed his Jeep through a fence at St. Joseph's Church on North Street in Pittsfield; now, the recently rehabbed fence will need even more financial attention to be set right once again.

MORE OF EVERYTHING: Please renew, subscribe or become a Facebook fan today. It keeps you in touch and keeps us in play.

Very best,

Noah Hoffenberg
