Auditions set for "Cabaret" at Ghent Playhouse

GHENT, N.Y. — Ghent Playhouse is holding auditions Tuesday and Thursday evening for its production of the John Kander-Fred Ebb musical, "Cabaret" (1998 version).

Auditions both nights begin at 7:30 at St. James Church, 117 Hudson Ave. in Chatham, on the corner of Routes 66 and 203, across from Destino Mexican Restaurant. Sign-in both nights is 7.

Performance dates are March 16-April 1 at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Rehearsals will be 7-10 Tuesday and Thursday evenings and 4-10 Sundays.

Set within and near a decadent and vulgar nightclub, The Kit Kat Club, "Cabaret" explores the tumultuous lives among a group of Berlin natives and expatriates, as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich.

The show's various roles range in age from 20s to 50s-plus. Director Matthew Teichner encourages actors who are younger than the age-ranges listed but feel capable of portraying older than their age to audition

There will be both dance and vocal auditions, so auditioners should dress in comfortable shoes and clothing.
