Vermont Theatre Company
The Vermont Theatre Company is proud to announce the upcoming performance of Bell, Book and Candle, a whimsical romantic comedy by John Van Druten.
Set in New York in the 1950’s, this play is about Gillian, a modern witch seeking to sample human romance. She enchants her neighbor Shep, who happens to be engaged to one of her enemies and, while everything starts out well enough, soon both of their lives are turned upside down. Charmingly funny supporting roles add to the fun. First produced in 1950, with Rex Harrison and Lilli Palmer, it was later made into a movie starring Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart. The play is an American classic which has not been performed in this area for some time.
Under the direction of Robert Wellington, Bridget McBride plays the role of Gillian, Jonathan Kinnersley is Shep, Veda Crewe is Gillian’s quirky aunt Queenie, Aaron Morse is Gillian’s brother Nicky, and Jim Bombicino is the rumpled author, Redlitch. Producers are Michelle Page and Jonathan Kinnersley.
Performances will be held at the Evening Star Grange in Dummerston on Nov. 1 - 3 and 8 - 10, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15, and $13 for students and seniors.
