PITTSFIELD — Berkshire Bank has awarded 40 high school seniors throughout the bank's six state footprint with a record $100,000 in scholarship funds through the Berkshire Bank Foundation Scholarship Awards Program. Each of these recipients will receive $2,500 to further their education.Due to federal tax reform at the beginning of this year, Berkshire Bank made a contribution to the foundation that enabled it to bolster its endowment and enhance its giving this year. A team of 200 Berkshire Bank employee volunteers selected the winners from nearly 300 applications.The scholarship awards recognize students that have exemplified community service through their volunteer efforts, have been successful academically and have a financial need. The program highlights the foundation's support for education and the bank's commitment to promote volunteerism in the community.Scholarships were awarded to students who live in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont.This year's local recipients include, Daniel Maillet of Pittsfield, Pittsfield High School; Sara Beckwith of Mount Washington, Mount Everett Regional High School; Finnbarr Chebatoris of Great Barrington, Mount Everett Regional High School;Mark Borelli II of Pittsfield, BART Charter Public School; and Dakota Kubli of East Nassau, N.Y., New Lebanon, N.Y., Junior/Senior High School.
