Berkshire County: Area residents earn college degrees

Brian Anthony Salvie, son of John and Christine Salvie of Pittsfield, and recipient of the National Health Service Corps Scholarship, graduated from the Doctor of Dental Medicine Program at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine on May 17.

The NHSC Scholarship is a highly-competitive federal program, issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, that covers full tuition, fees, and living expenses for students pursuing accredited, eligible primary care health professions training. In return, NHSC Scholars agree to work for a minimum of two years at an NHSC-approved site in Health Professional Shortage Areas.

Salvie will practice general dentistry at the Family HealthCare Network in Visalia, Calif.

He graduated summa cum laude from St. Anselm College in 2016, and with high honors from Pittsfield High School in 2012.

Audrey Wojtkowski of New Ashford graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, Iowa, on May 9 during a virtual commencement ceremony broadcast online.

Wojtkowski is joining the Fenton River Veterinary Hospital in Tolland, Conn., as a small animal practitioner.

Amelia Scolforo of Becket graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the University celebrated its spring 2020 commencement on April 25 with a special virtual toast in honor of the graduating students.

Local residents received bachelor of arts degrees from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., on Sunday, May 24, in a virtual commencement ceremony.

Mercedes Girona of Lee, an anthropology and foreign languages major, graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors in anthropology and foreign languages and was recently elected to the Epsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Hamilton College.

Eleanor Williams of Williamstown majored in psychology.

Matthew Baker of Hinsdale graduated from DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa., in May with a master of science degree in physician assistant studies.
