The number of coronavirus cases in Berkshire County rose to 11 on Monday, up from nine on Sunday, according to the state Department of Public Health.

Statewide, the number of cases increased to 197, an increase of 33 over Sunday.

Berkshire County has the fourth-most cases in the state, trailing Middlesex, Norfolk and Suffolk counties. Berkshire Medical Center is considered the common denominator in the local cases, given the mystery of exposure. More than 160 employees at BMC are now furloughed for quarantine after possible exposure to COVID-19 — the disease caused by the new coronavirus — from patients who have tested positive.
