Berkshire County sports notes: Free children's fishing derby on Saturday

The Berkshire Hatchery Foundation in Hartsville-New Marlborough is having its next free children's fishing derby on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 am at its lower pond. Children ages 12-and-under must be accompanied by an adult.

Outdoor Pistol Shoot

The third 2018 Outdoor Pistol Shoot at the Cheshire Rod & Gun Club is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m.

The shoot is a timed, Centerfire shoot with paper silhouettes at 10, 15, 20 and 25 yards.

Just4Keepers camp

Just4Keepers will be hosting a goalkeeping training camp at the Fieldhouse in Canaan, N.Y. on July 24 and 25. The fee for the camp has been revised from $197 to $99. Goalies that signed up already will receive a credit for the difference.

All attendees will receive a pair of goalkeeper gloves and a T-shirt.

Pittsfield Skills Basketball Camp

Taconic High School boys varsity basketball coach Bill Heaphy will be conducting his 14th annual skills basketball camp the week of Aug. 6.

The camp is available to players in Grades 3-12 at The Boys and Girls Club of The Berkshires. It will run Monday through Friday, 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Registration is $125 for the week in cash or check delivered to the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires or to Coach Heaphy on the first day of camp. Brochures are available at the Club or you can register online: www.bgcberkshires.org

Wednesday Night Baseball

Coach Mike and his friends will once again be hosting free baseball clinics and games for children who have not had a chance to play this summer.

Starting July 18 and running every Wednesday and Saturday through the summer, Coach Mike and other coaches will teach young players the skills of hitting, fielding and fundamentals. All kids play for free on a first come, first served basis, with a max of 60 kids.

There will be four teams, with the age group for the clinics ages 7 to 12.

The Wednesday sessions will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the Saturday sessions will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Berkshire Saints YMCA Football signups

Registration is underway for the Berkshire Saints youth football travel program. There are three teams for PeeWee players (ages 7 to 9), Junior players (ages 10 to 11, and 12-year-olds under 85 pounds that do not turn 13 by the end of the calendar year), and Senior players (ages 12 to 13, or 8th grade 14-year-olds not turning 15 by the end of the calendar year).

The date-of-birth cutoff for all players is Aug. 31.

The registration fee is $42 for a YMCA membership and $58 for the football program fee.

If a player has an active Greylock Credit Union Kid's account, receive a Greylock coupon and submit it at registration and the program fee will be waived, if if the coupon has not been used for any other YMCA programs.

Register your player at the YMCA on North Street in Pittsfield between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. during the week, and until 6:30 p.m. on the weekends.

The first day of practice is Aug. 6.
