Berkshire County sports notes, March 10: Baseball, softball, lacrosse leagues hosting tryouts, registrations


WEST SPRINGFIELD — Five Berkshire County youth basketball players have advanced in the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Shoot state championships.

Patrick McLaughlin, Grace Julieano, Ahna Balcom, David Kirchner and Katie Shove all won their age groups at the Western Mass. regional championship that was held Saturday at St. Thomas Apostle School in West Springfield. Julieano, Kirchner and Shove are represented by Lenox Council 314. Balcom is represented by Council 103. A photo of the group is attached.

Dalton Warriors boys team wins county title

The Dalton CRA Warriors 5th/6th grade boys basketball travel team recently won the Berkshire County Basketball Tournament. A photo of the team is attached.

Pittsfield girls lacrosse sign-ups

Online registration for Pittsfield Girls Lacrosse is open at Teams/programs are offered in the following age groups: Instructional (K-2), Bantams (Grades 3-4), Juniors (Grades 5-6), and Seniors (Grades 7-8). Pittsfield Girls Softball League

Registration is open for the 2019 Pittsfield Girls Softball League seasons. There are teams for girls ages 6-19. Individuals looking to sign up can visit The cost is $80 to register online.

The divisions are, by birth year: Tee-ball (2013), Coaches Pitch (2011-12), Rookie (U10, 2008-10), Minor (U12, 2006-07) and Major (2000-05).

Rookie Division evaluations for players new to the division will be on March 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at Reid Middle School. Evaluations for the Minor division will be on the same day at the same location, running from noon to 2 p.m.

Tee-ball and coaches pitch teams will be formed prior to opening day on May 4.

Major division evaluations will be performed on May 18, with a projected starting day of June 17 for the league. The league will be offering weekly practice to players in eighth grade who are eligible for this division over the Spring while they await the league start date.

Adult baseball league in Albany

The 55 Twins baseball team is seeking players ages 55 and older for the upcoming season. There is one game per week on weekday evenings, running from May through August.

The team is looking for above average pitchers, hitters or all-around players. It is not mandatory to make all of the games.

Pittsfield boys lacrosse registrations

The Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires boys lacrosse team is holding registrations for the upcoming season. Players must complete the U.S. Lacrosse registration before playing.

The Club is offering teams for Bantam (Grades 2-4), Juniors (Grades 5-6) and Seniors (Grades 7-8) divisions.

Girls may sign up, but it is noted that this is a boys rules league. Players must provide their own equipment this season. The teams are also looking for coaches at all levels.

Northern Berkshire independent youth baseball tryouts

The North Berkshire independent youth baseball league will be hosting tryouts for new players in its Majors division (ages 9-12).

The first session will be on March 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a second session on March 19 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Tryouts will be held at the Amsler Campus Center gym on the MCLA campus. Players must attend at least one tryouts session to be drafted into the Majors division. Please bring sneakers and a glove to tryouts.

The league is open to all youth players in Berkshire County. New applicant registration will start 30 minutes before each session begins.

The fee is $50 per player. All games are played in North Adams.
