Berkshire County sports notes: Pittsfield's Rodriguez honored with Brian Piccolo Award
Presented by the Pittsfield chapter of UNICO, the Piccolo Award is given to a senior football player from one of the city high schools each year and is accompanied by a scholarship.
"We ask the coaches for input, but we're looking for a kid with good academics who is also an outstanding football player," said Piccolo selection committee chair Paul Procopio. "Edwin has a tremendous story and is a really terrific kid. At the Monday Morning Quarterback Club banquet, he took home like four awards and scholarships."
Rodriguez, a running back and defensive end for Brian Jezewski at PHS, was a football and basketball captain. He will attend and continue playing football at Framingham State.
"We picked the right kid, that's for sure," added Procopio.
