Berkshire students, educators participate in regional music festival concert
The 62nd annual Senior Festival Concert of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Western District took place Saturday at the Fine Arts Center of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. A total of 67 Berkshire County students and 21 educators participated in the program.
To participate, students had to excel during their fall audition for the festival. Students are scored on their sight-reading and solo performance abilities against other students in the same audition categories. Band students are scored among other students playing the same instruments, and choral students are scored among other students singing the same voice parts.
More than 1,000 students from across the state audition each year, dedicating time in class and outside school to learn and rehearse their audition music.
