BHCC member Mark Chylinski in contention in Lowery Division at Ouimet Memorial Tournament

Berkshire Hills Country Club member Mark Chylinski fired an even-par 72 on Wednesday to put himself in third place in the Lowery Division (seniors) of the 54th Ouimet Memorial Tournament at Framingham Country Club.

Chylinski, who finished tied for second last year with fellow Berkshire Hills member Ralph Dastoli in the Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship, rallied with a 2-under 34 on the back nine after opening the day with a 38 in the 54-hole tournament.

Unfortunately for Chylinski, the leader is nine-time MassGolf Player of the Year Frank Vana Jr., who shot a 5-under 67 to build a four-shot lead over David Gottier, who is in second place one shot ahead of Chylinski.

The second round will be played Thursday at Framingham with the third and final round scheduled for Friday at Woodland Golf Club. The field will be cut to the low 12 and ties after Thursday's second round.


Wyantenuck Country Club's Del Kinney Jr. and Stockbridge Golf Club's Randy Hawthorne earned berths in this year's Massachusetts Super Senior Championship in a qualifier at Chicopee Country Club on Wednesday.

Kinney shot a 10-over 81 to tie for seventh place while Hawthorne shot an 82 and tied for ninth. It took an 84 to earn a spot in this year's championship in September.

Ludlow's Paul Nunez shot an a 2-under 69 to earn medalist honors by seven shots.
