Bits and Bites: Grillsdale, peach shortcake dinner scheduled



Kelly's Package Store will present the All-Dalton Farm-to-Table Wine and Beer Dinner on Tuesday at Holiday Farm in Dalton.

Cocktails by the pond, featuring Kelly's Package Store wine selections, Shire Breu Haus craft beers and Silver Bear Distillery specialty cocktails, will be available beginning at 6 p.m. Dinner, at 6:45 p.m. in the field by the Cooper Barn, will feature Holiday Farm meats and produce and flowers by White Goose Gardens, along with three dining stations with meals by local chefs Mike Mungeon, Maureen Brennan and Joe Dewey. At 8 p.m. complimentary dessert will be available. A cash bar will be available. One for One duo will provide live music.

The 4th Annual Grillsdale will spotlight the culinary talent and bounty of Columbia County and the Berkshires — featuring original grilled small plates from top restaurants, chefs, and purveyors from the region — from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday in Roeliff Jansen Park, 116 Old Route 22, Hillsdale, N.Y.

Attendees will enjoy an all-inclusive grilled food and drink menu featuring dishes from 15 noted chefs.

The evening will be capped with the presentation of the "People's Choice" award to be decided by the attendees. A raffle will go to the benefit of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail.

Void Union from Boston will keep the party swinging with its soulful retro-style Jamaican Ska and horn section. Chef Job Yacubian will round out the evening's entertainment when he takes the stage (post-grilling) with his Copake-based garage band, Wild Weeeds, featuring Slink Moss on vocals.

Tap Truck Buffalo will be at this year's event to keep the beer cool and flowing with a sweet five-tap, converted 1950 Ford Panel Truck. Hillsdale-based Wine Dogs Imports is the official 2019 wine sponsor. Tickets, from $25 to $85, are available at

The Pownal United Methodist Church, at the corner of Rt 346 and Church Street, will serve its annual peach shortcake supper on Thursday. The family-style dinner begins at 5 p.m. with continuous serving.

The menu includes: grilled chicken breasts and thighs, baked ham, pineapple sauce, baked beans, potato and Jello salads, rolls, coffee, iced tea or lemonade, and homemade peach shortcake.

Tickets available at the door: $14 for adults, $7 for children 4 to 10 years, and free for children 3 years and younger. Takeouts available at the south side entrance: $14 for adults, $7 for 1/2 portion dinner.

The Dalton United Methodist Church, at 755 Main St., will host a chicken barbecue to benefit the Dalton Fire Department and the church's Roof and Restoration Fund from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to chicken, the menu will include corn on the cob, potato salad, watermelon, desserts and beverages.

Tickets for the barbecue are $12 for adults at the door ($10 in advance) and $6 for children 12 and younger. Take-out meals are available.
