Brian Wilson's Tanglewood concert canceled

LENOX — The Brian Wilson "Pet Sounds" concert at Tanglewood has been canceled.

The Beach Boys co-founder was set to take the Koussevitzky Music Shed stage at 2:30 p.m. June 16 with fellow co-founder Al Jardine and former Beach Boys member Blondie Chaplin.

In a statement about his remaining June tour dates being postponed, Wilson said that he has been having some mental difficulties after his most recent back surgery, which, from a physical standpoint, he called "successful."

"After my last surgery I started feeling strange and it's been pretty scary for awhile," Wilson wrote. "I was not feeling like myself. Mentally insecure is how I'd describe it. We're not sure what is causing it but I do know that it's not good for me to be on the road right now so I'm heading back to Los Angeles. I had every intention to do these shows and was excited to get back to performing. ... I'm looking forward to my recovery and seeing everyone later in the year."

A statement from Tanglewood said that it "look[s] forward to having Brian Wilson join us again at a later date" and that all tickets are valid for refund. Alternatively, ticket holders can "exchange into any concert at Tanglewood this summer, with the exception of the James Taylor performances on July 3 and 4, which are sold out."

That list of performances includes "Live from Here" on June 15 with Chris Thile, Ben Folds and I'm With Her; Richard Thompson (June 21); Postmodern Jukebox (June 22); "The Boston Pops Celebrates Queen" with Marc Martel (June 27); Earth, Wind & Fire (June 28); Rodrigo y Gabriela (June 30); "Across the Stars: Music of John Williams" (July 7); Train and Goo Goo Dolls (Aug. 5); Boston Pops Orchestra's "Star Wars: A New Hope" (Aug. 16); and Squeeze (Aug. 22).

Additionally, ticket holders who choose to exchange their tickets will receive "an undated Tanglewood lawn ticket — a $24 value — for each ticket exchanged, valid for any Boston Symphony or Boston Pops concert throughout the season (not valid for Popular Artists Series concerts)," according to the statement.

To receive a refund or exchange tickets, email or call 617-266-1200 or 888-266-1200. Ticket holders can also visit the Symphony Hall box office or the Tanglewood box office when it opens on June 12.

"If we do not hear from you by June 21, 2019, you will automatically receive a refund credited to the card used to make the purchase," the statement says.
