Cantilena Chamber Choir presents Baltimore singers in rescheduled MLK weekend concert Saturday

LENOX — The Cantilena Chamber Choir will present a Martin Luther King weekend Psalms and Spirituals open sing 5 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Church, 88 Walker St. This concert is rescheduled from Jan. 20.

Special guests include a return appearance by the Urban Choral Arts Society from Baltimore. Dr. King will be remembered in poems and speeches, but the focus of the program will be a spiritual sing-along with the choirs. All words and music will be provided.

The featured work will be selections from Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert and spiritual arrangements by the King's Singers and Rosephanye Powell.

Winners of The Berkshire Eagle Martin Luther King student essay contest will be present to read their winning entries.

The Urban Choral Arts Society is a combined choir of youth and adults. It is under the direction of Ronald McFadden and is based at the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center.

Cantilena Chamber Choir is under the direction of its founder, Andrea Goodman, who also serves as music director for the annual summer Saratoga Choral Festival in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Admission is by a suggested donation.
