Chief: 2 dead in Groton house fire

GROTON, MASS. >> Two people have died in a house fire in Groton.

Fire Chief Steele McCurdy said when firefighters arrived on the scene at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday the home was already fully engulfed and flames were shooting out the windows.

He says firefighters tried to gain entry into the burning home but could not.

McCurdy says two adult residents were at first unaccounted for but later found dead.

No names were released.

The cause remains under investigation with help from the state Fire Marshal's office.
