Clarksburg: 1 dead in crash

State Police said Clarence Demers, 87, was killed when his Ford Focus collided with a Ford pick-up truck at the intersection of Route 8 and Henderson Road shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Troopers report the other driver, Peter Eoisvert, 44, of Wilmington, Vt., was not injured.

Both drivers were traveling alone when the accident occurred, but what caused the crash remains under investigation.

About two hours earlier, a woman was taken to North Adams Regional Hospital after her Toyota Tercel apparently rear-ended a Ford F-250 pick-up truck in the northbound lane of the Curran Highway (Route 8), near Specialty Minerals Inc. in Adams.

The identity of both drivers and what caused the crash — which reportedly occurred about 3 :45 p.m. — was unavailable from Adams Police late Sunday night.

The Toyota, which had Vermont license plates, sustained heavy front-end damage and a shattered windshield. The pick-up, registered in Massachusetts, had damage to the rear fender on the driver side of the vehicle. The crash impact was so strong, it knocked loose the spare tire from underneath the truck.

North Adams Transcript reporter Meghan Foley contributed to this report.
