Salesperson Jeff Minker, right, talks with avid hiker John McKenney in the camping and bicycle section of the Arcadian Shop in Lenox on Wednesday.

Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019

Good afternoon, Berkshire County.  I don't know about you, but I'm enojying this mild August weather. I'm originally from Kentucky, where August usually brings nothing but hot, humid air.

We get started with some tragic news out of Richmond, where a 72-year-old woman was killed in a two-car accident Wednesday afternoon.

In Great Barrington, a longtime city employee is facing larceny and embezzlement charges for allegedly stealing over $100,000 of town money.

Berkshire County stores are gearing up for a rush of customers this weekend, when many items will be sold sales tax-free.

And in Pittsfield, two high schools are adding African American history courses that will be taught in the fall.

The news isn't automatic. It doesn't appear out of thin air. It takes the doggedness  and dedication of a scrappy little staff to keep the news flowing to Berkshire County, day in and day out. Help us achieve our mission. Please renew or subscribe today.

Very best,

Jimmy Nesbitt
Berkshire Eagle deputy managing editor
