environmental fine

PITTSFIELD -- A 66-year-old Hinsdale man was ordered to pay a fine after he admitted to commiting several environmental crimes.

Skyline Trail resident Peter A. Gallant pleaded guilty Monday in Berkshire Superior Court to six criminal counts related to an April 2009 diesel fuel spill in Hinsdale.

Gallant admitted to two counts of violation of the notification requirement of a release, or threat of release, of oil or other hazardous material; two counts of illegal disposal of hazardous waste; and two counts of discharging waste without a permit.

Judge John A. Agostini continued the charges without a finding for one year, on the condition that Gallant pay a $5,000 fine.
