Dietz, Tefft take lead at Little Brown Jug

DALTON — The Connecticut team of Brent Dietz and Bill Tefft birdied three of their final five holes on Saturday to take a one-shot lead with a 9-under 133 total after two rounds of the Little Brown Jug at Wahconah Country Club.

Dietz (Great Horse Golf Club) and Tefft (Cedar Knobb Country Club), who will be trying to win the Jug for the third time in four years, overcame a four-shot, first-round deficit with a 5-under 66 to overtake James Ryan (The Orchards) and Steve Magargal (Berkshire Hills). Ryan and Magargal settled for an even-par 71 on Saturday.

The combination of Chris Burke (Frenchman's Creek, Fla. ) and Matt Perry (Springfield Country Club) tied the leaders for the low-score of the day with a 66 and trail by two strokes entering Sundays's final round.

Five teams are tied for fourth place at 137, including defending champions Chris Ferriter and Joe Wilson (The Orchards), as well as the Wahconah team of Tom Czelusniak and Rich Rowe. The championship flight leaders will tee off between 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday.
