Driver escapes serious injury in car accident, fire at Savoy-Plainfield line
SAVOY — A driver escaped serious injury after a car crash and vehicle fire at the Savoy-Plainfield line Thursday morning.
Massachusetts State Police from the Cheshire barracks responded to a 911 call at 6:30 a.m. on Route 116; upon arrival, the trooper encountered a 2015 Buick Encore on fire, according to state police. Firefighters and emergency medical staff from the Savoy Volunteer Fire Department responded, as well, state police said.
The driver — who was out of the Buick when police arrived — suffered only minor injuries; a passerby who helped on the scene was suffering from a lacerated hand.
The accident report was preliminary, and additional details are pending, state police said. There were no citations issued to the driver, police said.
Emergency workers kept hilltown traffic flowing, temporarily closing the eastbound lane to morning commuters.
