English bedroom farce opening at Theater Barn
NEW LEBANON, N.Y. — "The Decorator," a contemporary English bedroom farce by Donald Churchill, begins a three-weekend engagement Friday at The Theater Barn, 654 Route 20.
Performances through Sept. 23 are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 and Sunday afternoons at 2.
Upper-crusty Marcia is having the painters re-do the elegant flat she shares with her husband, Reggie. The painter who comes to finish the job turns out to be Walter, a tradesman who is really an actor. Who should show up just then but Jane, with whose husband, Brian, Marcia has been having an affair. Jane announces that she's found out about Marcia and Brian, produces a large mallet, smashes Marcia's prize hand-painted plates and threatens to return later to tell Reggie, who's been out of town on a business trip, about the affair.
Phil Rice, who directed The Theater Barn's season-opening production, "The Nerd," returns to direct this year's fall show. The cast includes Barn veterans Kathleen Carey ("Veronica's Room," "God of Carnage") and Colleen Lovett ("Lucky Me," "The Cocktail Hour"), and Theater Barn newcomer Mark "Monk" Schane-Lydon, who has performed with several regional theaters.
