FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW (PG-13)

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown's Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw's sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves. 2 hours, 14 minutes. BM

HUSTLERS (R)

Working as a stripper to make ends meet, Destiny's life changes forever when she becomes friends with Ramona — the club's top money earner. Ramona soon shows Destiny how to finagle her way around the wealthy Wall Street clientele who frequent the club. But when the 2008 economic collapse cuts into their profits, the gals and two other dancers devise a daring scheme to take their lives back. As pure entertainment, it gets by well enough but it saves all its tricks for the end. It's a banger of an ending, too, which is something so few films manage to nail. This, you think, is the movie. Then suddenly it's over just when it starts to get good. With Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, Constance Wu, Keke Palmer. (Bahr, The Associated Press — 9/16). 1 hour, 47 minutes. BC / BM / CT / TC

THE GOLDFINCH (R)

Theodore Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day — a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. Adapted from Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, "The Goldfinch" isn't a failure, but it's not a success either. It's the kind of dense, decade-spaning material that perhaps would have been better served by a miniseries like HBO has done with "My Brilliant Friend." It's a very long movie that requires patience, at least a little knowledge of the book and some forgiveness for the things that just don't work at all. With Ansel Elgort, Oakes Fegley, Aneurin Barnard, Finn Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson. (Bahr, The Associated Press — 9/13). 2 hours, 29 minutes. BC / BM / TC / TM

Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak's return, to join them on their journey. 1 hour, 33 minutes.
