Fire causes evacuation at Walmart in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD — Police are investigating the cause of a Wednesday morning fire that prompted a brief evacuation at Walmart.Firefighters responded to the Hubbard Avenue store around 11:45 a.m. and found a small fire in a bathroom, according to Deputy Chief Raymond Tart. "The store was evacuated when they got there," Tart said. "I sent people back in after about 20 minutes." Tart said that city police were later called into investigate the scene."It was believed to have possibly been set by someone," Pittsfield Police Sgt. John "J.P." Murphy said.The investigation is ongoing and no other information was immediately available Wednesday night.
