Great Barrington: Environmental lawyer to speak at college

International environmental lawyer Thomas Linzey will be speaking virtually from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Bard College at Simon's Rock as part of a fall 2020 university speaking tour.

A recorded version of his talk, "Who Speaks for the Trees? The Movement for the Rights of Nature," will be made available to the public following the presentation. To view, visit

Linzey will focus on the growing "rights of nature" movement, in which national, state and local governments have adopted laws which recognize legally enforceable rights for rivers, bays, forests, watersheds, mountains, and other ecosystems.

The presentation is part of the College's "Dialogues on Ecological Justice" sponsored by Global Political Ecology - World Regions and Contested Resources.
