Great Barrington man nabbed after alleged theft from Carr Hardware in Lee

LEE — A Great Barrington man is facing charges for allegedly stealing about $800 worth of items from Carr Hardware over the weekend, police said on Monday.

Joshua Johnston, 24, was arrested about 3:18 a.m. Saturday after Officer Benjamin Towne noticed suspicious activity at the rear of the store at the south end of Main Street.

Towne stopped Johnston as he was leaving the parking lot and found a large amount of stolen property — 42 items in all — in his vehicle.

Johnston is facing one count each of breaking and entering into a building at night, a felony, wanton destruction of property, receiving stolen property and larceny over $250.

He was released on $500 bail pending arraignment Thursday in Southern Berkshire District Court.
