Hiring underway for Wayfair's planned Pittsfield hub

PITTSFIELD — Wayfair is hiring for supervisory, recruitment and technical jobs in Pittsfield to support its soon-to-open sales and service center, the company says.

As of Thursday afternoon, one Pittsfield-based position appeared on the online furniture retailer's career page — a posting for "human resources senior leader." Molly Delaney, corporate communications manager for the company, said there's more to come.

"We will be hiring for additional roles — sales and service consultants — in the coming months," Delaney said.

Jobs being filled now include "talent management" and information technology roles.

The sales and service center is scheduled to open in the fall in the Clock Tower Business Center on South Church Street. Wayfair announced in December that it planned to establish a facility in Pittsfield that would employ 300 people.

Mayor Linda Tyer boasted about the new jobs this week on her campaign's Facebook page.

"The addition of this world-renowned company to Pittsfield's roster of employers is a major boost to our city's economic future," she wrote. "My work to implement strategic and collaborative alignments to advance business development initiatives prove that our strategies are delivering."

An extensive renovation is ongoing at the Clock Tower building. Tyer said work is scheduled for September completion.

Meantime, Delaney said corporate leaders from elsewhere, including Wayfair's site director in Big Flats, N.Y., are helping to prepare the Pittsfield facility. The company recently hired a senior-level manager who purchased a home in Pittsfield, she said.

She said Wayfair still is recruiting for the Pittsfield site director position.

"We remain very excited about Wayfair coming to Pittsfield," she said.

The open human resources manager position calls for human resources and management experience, as well as a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field.

"The Human Resources team makes sure the fun, hardworking, and innovative culture of Wayfair are constants in the work lives of our employees," the online posting states.
