Hoosac Valley boys lacrosse postseason run ends in semifinals

UPTON — The No. 2 Nipmuc boys lacrosse team used a dominant first half to earn a 17-7 win in the Central/Western Massachusetts Division III semifinals.

The Hurricanes (15-4) entered the match coming off an upset victory over Mount Greylock, but the Warriors showed that they're playing the game at the highest level.

Nipmuc led 12-2 at halftime. Hoosac could not shrink the deficit in the second half.

Nick Waterman led the 'Canes with four goals. Nate Haley added two goals.

"We had tape on them but you can't tell how good they are until you see them in person," Hoosac coach Mark Harrington said. "Very precise on everything they did. Got every ground ball. If you made a mistake, they found the open man and hit the shot.

We had a fantastic year. ... The kids played well. Good learning experience. We got some playoff experience, and we have a lot of good young kids coming up."
