Lee DPW superintendent on paid administrative leave

LEE — The Department of Public Works' top man is off the job until further notice.

DPW Superintendent Christopher Pompi is on paid administrative leave, according to Lee/Lenox Chief Administrative Officer Christopher Ketchen.

Ketchen has confirmed to The Eagle he placed Pompi on leave on Feb. 2, but wouldn't say why.

"We don't comment on personnel matters," he said.

The Eagle has been unable to reach Pompi for comment on the situation. Pompi can request a hearing before the Lee Select Board to discuss his situation, but none has been scheduled, Ketchen added. The Select Board would have the final say on any resolution to the matter.

As CAO, Ketchen has direct supervision over town department heads, except the public health director, including hiring and firing recommendations to the Select Board.

In Pompi's absence, Ketchen noted the heads of the DPW's highway, water and sewer divisions will report directly to him.

A Lee native, Pompi was hired nearly 14 years ago to lead the local DPW. He currently earns more than $81,000 a year.
