Letter: Act opens up Legion membership
To the editor:
I haven't seen significant coverage about recent changes made by Congress determining when the U.S. was at war, so I feel obligated to note it here.
To honor the 1,600 U.S service members who were killed or wounded during 12 previously undeclared periods of war, the LEGION Act was signed into law by President Donald Trump on July 30, filling in those gaps. This means that all service members and veterans who have served in the U.S. armed forces since Dec. 7, 1941, are now eligible to join the American Legion.
