Letter: Animal rights group endorses for Council

To the editor:

Berkshire Voters for Animals is pleased to endorse three newcomers to the races for Pittsfield City Council: Dina Guiel for Ward 2, William (Bill) Wright for Ward for Ward 4 and Earl Persip for at-large.

Dina, Bill and Earl all demonstrate a commitment to values of compassion and kindness based on their responses to our candidate survey. The ideals they expressed will help ensure humane treatment of animals within our community. Just as importantly, these same values also speak to standards of respect, integrity, and empathy that will serve our City Council well and ensure creative and progressive approaches to the issues facing Pittsfield.

In addition, Berkshire Voters for Animals endorses the following current city councilors who have demonstrated their compassion for animals last year by banning exotic animals for performing in circuses within the city, Nick Caccamo for Ward 3, John Krol, Jr. for Ward 6, Anthony (Tony) Simonelli for Ward 7, and Peter Marchetti, Melissa Mazzeo, and Peter White for city councilors at-large.

Leslie Luppino,

The writer is director of Berkshire Voters for Animals.
