To the editor:

I'm writing to say how very proud I am, not only of the Berkshire Eagle but also of its readers.

As the editor, Kevin Moran, noted on Saturday's op-ed page, the paper has for some time now printed a column called "Right from the Berkshires." I've bit my tongue waiting to see where the Berkshire conservative minority would take this literary excursion, and as expected, with Steven Nikitas' June 13 column, "Here's the solution for black America," they drove it right off a cliff.

As Moran noted, sunlight truly is the best disinfectant, and the letters in opposition to that column — which are still coming in — have made me proud to live in the Berkshires.

So, with the Supreme Court delivering conservatives in the Berkshires and all over the country multiple blows last week — upholding Obamacare, same-sex marriage, and fair housing — and with virtually all reasonable people applauding the removal of the Confederate flag from public view and putting it in the dustbin of history where it belongs, perhaps it's time to rename that conservative column "Wrong for the Berkshires."
