Letter: Climate change stance may cost Toyota a sale

To the editor:

President Trump opposes California's auto emission standards which are the least to be pursued in support of the climate change urgencies of our day. Further, he is withdrawing our nation from the Paris Accords on Climate Change, making us the only country out of roughly 200 others that at least, in principle, support the necessity of taking all possible measures to ward off catastrophic climate changes.

Ford, Honda and Volkswagen have sided with California's right to set pollution limits and are designing their vehicles with that in mind. On the other hand, General Motors, Toyota and Fiat/Chrysler are siding with the Trump administration against California's standards. As a Toyota owner, I find this an appalling disgrace.

We have had no problems with our local Toyota dealer and find theirs an organization of integrity. However, I hope they let Toyota management know that we never intend to buy another Toyota unless something there changes very radically and extremely soon with regard to their concern for the well-being of the planet and all its life forms.

Don Lathrop,

Canaan, N.Y.
