Letter: Customer does work, banks charge fee
To the editor:
In this technological era many, if not most, people handle online banking automatically which requires little if any personal handling by bank personnel.
I am horrified that a local bank with which I have done business for 45-plus years has announced it will be charging me for personally going online to set up a transfer of funds from an outside account into my local checking account. ACH — Automatic Clearing House — transfers will also be charged a fee.
Since I am doing the work, checking for accuracy, and have been doing so for years since bank interest rates on CDs and other savings accounts are pathetically low these days, why are the banks continuing to be so greedy and penalizing consumers for no reason that I can imagine?
Oh, I suppose, as our present leader states ...."It's good business!"
